Running 650km through the Australian Alps (in 13 days)

by Beau Miles

I love the feeling of this video. Just a few seconds in, I doubted how old this video was.

My take on this video

I love the feeling of this video. Just a few seconds in, I doubted how old this video was. It took only 38 seconds for me to scroll down and check - 9 years old. Relatively old Youtube era, the raw, rushless (or unrushed, if you want accuracy :D but I like rushless) feeling back at it again.

This isn't fully about running - it's more about journey, which I believe is the correct tone, at least from my expectations - I didn't click 650km run, 1 hour video to watch running, I wanted the journey, the experience, and what it was to go through that distance on foot, not just the feeling, but the logistics, problems and issues associated with it.

And the video delivers exactly that. It's great. Takes its own time to do that, lets you be and experience the moment with a very raw approach. Great style, imo.

As a nice bonus, if you look deep enough into it, is the moment his parents step in - people who want the best for him, but can't offer what's best for him. This is a good life lesson, and as Beau highlights, when parents get involved in such risky, dangerous or uncertain situations, things usually get harder, not easier. They worry about you, and they tend to prefer stability over everything else. This is a good one that can be generalized - people who care about you might want the best for you, but they most likely aren't suited for providing the best for you. Shown firsthand during his journey.

I might be biased here, but this raw, direct feeling of old Youtube is extremely calming and relaxing to watch. Gets you out of this "I'm behind" feeling, and lets you be in the moment.
